Doesn’t Discourse have an Elder rank?

Elder was the old name for the leader role

Was meant to be a reply to Jev, not trickshot

So there is an Elder rank but we stayed with the 4 ones we use now.

Nah, elder got renamed to leader to better convey it’s role. And what was leader is now called regular, etc

actually, Elder would fit well between Regular and Leader though

Elder is mods.

but Mods and mods

Elder is renamed to Mods. We have the following:

0 = new
1 = basic
2 = regular
3 = leaders
4 = mods

What are the requirements to obtain basic?

I think mods are different to elders, and not really on the user trust level scale, you forgot ‘member’ between ‘basic’ and '‘regular’

Discourses Example: Visitor - Novice - Regular - Leader - Elder, 5 different trust levels.

Another example from them is New - Basic - Member - Regular - Leader. Also 5 levels.

Our forums.

0 = new
1 = basic
2 = regular
3 = leaders
4 = mods

Also 5 levels.

So:

New=Basic User
Basic=Member and so forth?

Correct. Trust level 0 is new and has very limited abilities to do things on here.

Nobody’s a basic bitch in our community though! They are all citizens of the Forums Of Evolve!

Nah, Trust level 0 is there to prevent people from creating a brand new account and spamming/flooded the forums… It doesn’t last long but reduces a LOT of spammers. You’d be surprised how many get caught in System’s filter :slight_smile: I enjoy purging them from time to time.

We still have members as a badge and a level for forumers here

Also discourse 'regular trust level=3 has the same power, and the same old requirements (before our side lowered the requirements), as our ‘regular trust level=2 (according to you)’

Regular (3)

Regulars are the most active readers and reliable contributors over long periods of time.

They can get to trust level 3 by…

This is time and activity based, unlike the previous levels. In the last 100 days…

must have visited at least 50% of days
must have replied to at least 10 different topics
of topics created in the last 100 days, must have viewed 25%
of posts created in the last 100 days, must have read 25%
must have received 20 likes, and given 30 likes.*
must not have received more than 5 spam or offensive flags (with unique posts and unique users for each, confirmed by a moderator)
must not have been suspended

  • These likes must be across a minimum number of different users (1/5 the number), across a minimum number of different days (1/4 the number). Likes cannot be from PMs.

All of these must be true.

Unlike other trust levels, you can lose trust level 3 status. If you dip below these requirements, whether from flagging or the passage of time, you will be demoted to Member. However, in order to avoid constant promotion/demotion situations, there is a 2-week grace period immediately after gaining Trust Level 3 during which you will not be demoted.

Admins can change these thresholds in…

leader_requires_days_visited
leader_requires_topics_replied_to
leader_requires_topics_viewed
leader_requires_posts_read
leader_requires_max_flagged
leader_promotion_min_duration (grace period)
Users at trust level 3 can…

recategorize and rename topics
access a private “frequent flier’s lounge” category only visible to users at trust level 3 and higher
have all their links followed (we remove automatic nofollow509)
spam flags cast on TL0 user posts immediately reach the action threshold
Daily like limit increased by 2 ×

And trust level=4 (mods according to you) lack the ability to do a global pin, or delete posts, like the leaders here

Users at trust level 4 can…

edit all posts
pin/unpin topic
close topic
archive topic
make topic unlisted
Split and merge topics
Daily like limit increased by 3 ×

Trust levels 3/4, as defined by thecreator in the guide to the forum
