Terrible optimization. Anyone else?

#1

Finally I downloaded Evolve and… I cannot play it.

The game is lagging as hell even on low details.

In previous build I was able to run it on Medium/High settings in around 50-60 fps.

Anything I can do? Or my only option is to wait till game got optimized/ I get better GPU?

#2

Could you please forward your system info (DxDiag)?

Please try changing the graphics options, see if that helps. EDIT: oh you said you tried Low already. Try Minimum?

#3

Give me a sec, need to find out how to do it

will try, thanks even though I dont get why I cant get performance I was getting back in TU 8

#6

Seems odd, but that’s what this beta testing bit is for too. I’ll try out my sketchy laptop later and see if I’m seeing performance drops or gains too

#7

My game has been chugging as well, turned the shadows down and such so it works kinda well :s

#8

One thing I’d say is make sure you’re on the latest drivers for your perspective video card.

@ArPharazon is a engine programmer, so he’ll look into the issues as they come up.

#9

Drivers up to date, from low to very high settings the game is stable and then there are those drops to as low as 3 fps sometimes … for a build that is supposed to be lighter and more optimized than the older version (in which I had flawless performances) I hope it’s just because it is a Beta and that it will be fixed really soon

#10

Possibly missing shaders, see my blah blah here:

#11

Thought I mention that optimization works for some of us. Previously I had massive performance issues and fps drops, but the new update has made the game so much more playable for me, running at smooth 30fps. And thats on my i5-760 @ 2.8GHz, 4GB Ram and Radeon HD 5770 considered ancient by todays tech standards. So kudos TRS for the effort!

#12

That’s very nice to hear, that was what was supposed to happen! The missing shader thing was a mix of bad luck and bad timing, despite our best intentions. Missing shaders clears up over time, hope people can get past it in the meantime! Future updates should clean this up for new users.

#13

So my spcecs are; GTX 980, I7-4790k, 8GB RAM and a MSI motherboard. I get 6-8 fps in the main menu and ingame i get 1 fps. I have tried changing to windowed and to minimum on graphics, this did not help at all. I checked my GPU to see how much it was getting used, and while Evolve Stage 2 was open it used 90% of my GPU. 90% thats crazy!!
I really want to play your game so do you have any clue how i could fix this? I have tried re-installing the game too, but that did not help.
-Thanks for reading this, and thanks for helping the community.

#14

I’m also one of the users where the optimization got worse, not only that but the game has freezes now (something that didn’t happen before).

I used to play at 60 stable FPS on Medium/High, now no matter the settings I get constant stuttering and freezes.

#15

Uh, wow. Hard to know where to start. Please try these:

  1. Make sure your computer uses the 980 for Evolve, not integrated graphics.
  2. Use Steam’s Verify Integrity feature.
  3. Go to your Steam install folder, find a folder that looks like this…
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\xxxxxxxx\273350

The “xxxxxxxx” will be some random-looking number. You’ve got the right one if you see a 273350 folder inside. Delete the entire contents of the 273350 folder.

Run the game, see if improved.

Please see my postings about shaders prior to your post. They probably apply to you. Stop changing graphics options for now, and try to tolerate the stuttering for the moment. If it’s the missing shaders issue, performance will improve the more you play.

Changing the graphics quality may trigger more shader building, so pick one that seems appropriate and stick with it.

Whatever you do, don’t delete your userdata folder contents like I told the guy above. It will probably throw away the work being done to build shaders while you play, and you’ll have to start that all over. I suggested the userdata deletion to him because I think he’s got something unrelated and much more severely wrong.

I get about 6 FPS now in fights, have played about 4 matches and no improvements yet. I don’t remember what I used to get back when the game launched or before this patch, but it was at least decently playable compared to this. It doesn’t really freeze or stutter, it’s just terrible FPS.

Processor: AMD FX™-4100 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8174MB RAM
Page File: 4923MB used, 4854MB available
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Chip type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x6739)
Display Memory: 4851 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1011 MB
Shared Memory: 3840 MB

Should I just keep playing and hope it gets better?

EDIT: Turns out my Orochi-CEG wasn’t working right, now I get a solid 40 FPS on low.

Stage 2: For people having FPS problems this may help

Glad you got it working!

I’d never heard of Orochi-CEG. Does it do more than address some problem with Steam CEG? We don’t use Steam CEG in Evolve, by the way.

I have tried everything, deleted the folders inside 273350 and verifyed integrity. I am NOT running on a laptop so i couldn’t change to “not integrated graphics”
