Unless you’re intentionally putting your eye down near boiling liquid or putting cooking utensils in them, it will be some crazy accident you couldn’t have predicted. But when sticking needles in your eye, that’s a KNOWN risk. If you have that kind of thing done, you are told that can happen, however remote the chance, yet people do it anyways.
There is a difference between losing and damaging. It isn’t hard to damage your eye, even permanently. Yeah it recovers quickly from small stuff, like sand, dirt, etc. Even small scratches heal. But cutting it open or adding fluid through a needle can tear your eye’s protective layer and essentially pop it. Even if you don’t lose it, you can lose at least partial sight and it’s not difficult or hard to imagine that happening.
Sure, it’s unlikely, but it is 100% a known risk people take intentionally. Then they act surprised and say “Oh he/she lost their eye by sticking needles in it. How could this happen!?”
