I’m trying but I just can’t. I mean I enjoy watching but I don’t have that level of love for it. There is so much back-stabbery and death to honor death, but then total outright slaughter of innocent people because…well, we raid and that’s what we do. There is very little loyalty that doesn’t get broken, and you can’t trust even family members or children. They want treasure but before season 4 when they became a trading depo, there was no real use for that treasure because I didn’t see any commerce within their society to warrent getting “riches.” Not sure I care for the take on the religions and how they are setting religion up to basically be nothing. They demolished Ragnar all of a sudden into a broken man that everyone hates and yet now they have to go avenge him? Why? For a man an episode ago you couldn’t stand? Well, for honor, I guess? I just find the story rough around the edges. I don’t really connect with any characters except Floki, because he seems the most solid in his convictions throughout everything. shrugs it beats “Lost” but it’s no way near Game of Thrones level to me…although it is so apparent it is trying to be. I had more of a romantic notion of vikings before this show and this basically makes me look at them like…nothing more than barbarians preying on the weak and ignorant, which I don’t think was the show’s intent. They wanted to REVERSE that notion but for me I appreciated them more not knowing their deeper culture I guess.
