Overwatch: Roadhog and Junkrat!

#1

In case anybody on the forums who was interested in Overwatch missed this (like I did because I check news very irregularly to save myself from the sting of waiting for ages) here’s the two new criminals in Overwatch!

I’m watching them just now. What do you all think?

#2

What Evolve did right (though after launch) and a lot of modern games do wrong is their lack of Norwegian characters.
It’s even a Sweden in overwatch. Hopefully Overwatch will sort this out before it launches.

Roadhog though. Gonna be fun to play with him, hehe.

Right? when I watched the video, I went “Oh, he has Torbjorn’s weapon, bah. Oh wait, it has a flak mode, awesome. Oooo, he has a hook, cool! HOLY HELL WHAT WAS THAT ULT!?”

Junkrat looks fucking funny to play too  not too in on trap characters but a “mine jump” is cool, I love the knockback range and jesus, that wheel. It even climbs walls!

#4

New Overwatch characters! YAYYYYYY!

#5

Yeah. Junk Rat looks cool too, but he seems to relie on spamming a bit, which I’m not a huge fan of.
He is also going to be a pain for Bastion and Torbjørn.

#6

Is anyone else getting a sort of “Mad Max” vibe from these guys?

I’ll post their background stories here in a sec.

#Junkrat

“It’s a perfect day for some mayhem.” -Junkrat

Junkrat is an explosives-obsessed freak who lives to cause chaos and destruction.

The attack on the Australian omnium’s fusion core forever altered the landscape of the Outback. After the detonation, the area was transformed into a harsh, irradiated wasteland, littered with debris and the twisted fragments of the ruined facility, and unlivable to most.

But there were some who survived. Calling themselves the Junkers, they scavenged the husk of the omnium and formed a lawless, cutthroat society in its shadow. Junkrat was one of them, eking out a living reclaiming metal and components from the ruins. Like many others, he was affected by the lingering radiation. This touch of madness made him ideal for handling dangerous explosives, a love which he turned into an obsession.

He came to notoriety when he discovered an extremely valuable secret in the bones of the omnium. Though few knew the nature of what he found, he was nonetheless pursued by bounty hunters, gangs, and opportunists wherever he went, until he made a deal with the Junker enforcer Roadhog, who grudgingly agreed to be his personal bodyguard in exchange for a fifty-fifty share of the spoils.

Now, with Roadhog in tow, Junkrat has left the Outback, and embarked upon an international crime spree leaving nothing but havoc and bedlam in his wake.

#Roadhog

“I’m a one man apocalypse!” -Roadhog

Roadhog is a ruthless killer with a well-earned reputation for cruelty and wanton destruction.

After the Omnic Crisis, government officials gifted the Australian omnium and the surrounding area to the omnics that had nearly destroyed their country, hoping to establish a long-term peace accord. This arrangement permanently displaced Mako Rutledge and a large number of the Outback’s residents, a scattered collection of survivalists, solar farmers, and people who just wanted to be left alone.

Furious over the loss of their homes, Mako and others turned to violent rebellion. They formed the Australian Liberation Front and struck against the omnium and its robot population to take back the lands that had been stolen. Events continued to escalate until the rebels sabotaged the omnium’s fusion core, resulting in an explosion that destroyed the facility, irradiated the region, and littered the Outback with twisted metal and wreckage for kilometers around.

Mako watched as his home became an apocalyptic wasteland, and he was forever changed.

Adapting to his environment, he donned a mask and took to the broken highways of the Outback on his ramshackle chopper. Little by little, his humanity was forgotten. The last vestiges of Mako faded away and the ruthless killer Roadhog was born.

I think I’ll play Roadhog a fair bit, Junkrat I’m not so sure on. He doesn’t strike me as spammy though, his traps require setup. I do think it’s pretty crap how all those grenades strapped to him only come into play once he dies, but he, he has a car horn mine and a frigging wheel of destruction. Those sound effects are awesome. The scrap minigun though… Jesus.

#9

That ult is going to be what separates good roadhogs from okay ones.

#10

He’s clearly a tank but I don’t think he’s going to be used as one much. His crowd control is very lacking, looks like he’s meant to be a tough to kill damage dealer honestly.

#11

From what I heard from people who played the game. The roles aren’t really as defined as we think they are. They described the game as an FPS much like TF2 the tanks simply foster a different style of play. They can carry a team, much like you can in TF2.

#12

I don’t know what you guys are talking about, Junkrat is awesome! Roadhog to me is pretty meh.

#13

I think the tanks are capable of dishing out damage, but I do think that some of the previous tanks are blatantly team oriented and there’s no way Junk Rat could be used for what they’re used for. Reinhardt for example, he can kill people easily if he reaches them, but usually he can’t do that easily. However, his ult counters EVERYTHING and the range is awesome.

#14

Overwatch is going to be F2P right? I’m interested in the game but I’m not sure I have a full understanding of what it’s trying to be. Is it sorta like TF2?

#15

Reiny has effectively 2800 hp, with 2000 of that being from his shield. He’s designed to be the frontline tank.

#16

I have no idea honestly. I don’t know how Blizz plans on monetising the game because so far they’re adding characters for variety MOBA style, rather than equipment TF2 style, not even hats yet.

It’s sort of like that in the map objectives, Payroll being one. It also has no limit on how many of each character can be on your team (so beware teams full of Widowmakers just like teams full of Snipers). However, the characters here don’t have different loadouts and have skills that are much more like MOBAs. Abilities with cooldowns and even and ult. Also, the game is 6v6.

It’s still a First Person Shooter.

Don’t forget 2000 being shared with the team! He’s such a nice guy.

#17

I take it back, I just realised that his ult has some pushback to it. Ouch.

#18

Saw them when they were announced, not interested in their playstyle. ^.^

#19

Spoilsport :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t care much for Junkrat but Roadhog seems awesome.

#20

Ahhhh I’m late to the partyyyy
Personally I don’t like Roadhog, something about him just rubs me the wrong way.
Love Junkrat tho, finally a character I can relate to <3
Still gonna spam Reinhardt tho cuz Hammer and Shield

I’ve trained my whole life for this.
