Our story began with two members of our band of mismatched heroes being led through Velkynvelve. Taking in the lay of things as they passed through they were eventually led into a pen full of other slaves that were to be auctioned off in the city of Menzoberranzan.
After a word of warning from the head of the outpost, Priestess Ilvara Mizzrym, the party was left to their own devices. Rok, the gnome, took the time to talkto the rest of the prisoners, conveniently forgetting about the human female he was brought in with. After a failed attempt to break his shackles, the Troll in the back of the cave decided that killing the Orc, Ront, would be enough of a reason for the guards to have to open the gate. Instead he was darted with 4 doses of drow poison and took a nap. A few other slaves attempted to slip their manacles but to no avail.
Later, several members of the party were brought out to do menial tasks for the drow. During this time Titty Sprinkles, Rok, and Flora (a halfling) were assigned to switch out chamberpots in Priestess Ilvara's chambers. Flora, much to the horror of the other two, attempted to use the contents of a dirty chamber pot as lubrication to slip her manacles again while Sprinkles attempted to use the clean chamber pot to break a lock on a chest in Ilvara's room. Meanwhile Orssa attempted to swipe a bone while cleaning out the Quaggoth den, but wasn't as sneaky as she thought she was and drew the gaze and ire of a guard.
Once everyone was back in their pen, they were brought dinner by Jorlan, an Elite drow that had recently fallen from Ilvara's graces. In an effort to humiliate his former mistress and her new lover, Jorlan offered the party a chance to escape and the party accepted. After his departure the party took stock of the current situation. All agreed that escape was their only option and began to plan for their escape. As sleep began to settle in on the slaves, Rok used a piece of silken rope to play a simple song of rest and the group fell into a peaceful slumber.
The next day after again being forced to do some menial tasks, during which more information was gleaned by the chamber pot crew, several members attempted to slip their bonds again with much better results. The troll, Flora, Jimjar, and Titty Sprinkles, all managed to completely or partially slip their bonds and the rest of the day the party spent discussing the best escape route.
After much discussion the party was set on trying to make it to the Darklake via the western passage out of the Velkynvelve cavern. Jorlan appeared with their meager supper and sent the guards off early as promised. As the party went to make their escape (stopping to also grab The Doctor and Flarf) a horrible screeching sound filled the cavern as two flying demons crashed into Ilvara's stalactite.
The party used this unforeseen distraction to make their way into the Watch Tower to find arms and armor. Unfortunately they were spotted by a Quaggoth roused from sleep by the cacophony, who in turn roused the rest of the sleeping quaggoth. All of the party made it into the watch tower, except Dahhrk the Dragonborn who stayed behind (still manacled) to hold off the approaching horde.
The party arms and armors as many members as possible then decides to send a small cadre into Ilvara's to try to reclaim the items they had before they were captured. At this point no one except Aldhissla realized that Jimjar was no longer with the party. As Sprinkles, Rok, and Aldhissla make their way across the rope bridge and into the shrine, they see Jimjar lounging on the corpse of the once living spider that had been hiding in the cushions.
TS, Rock and Jimjar make their way into Ilvara's chamber and attempt to deal with the locked chest. Rok made the first attempt to pick the lock using a dagger he found but only managed to cut himself. Jimjar made the next attempt and received a poisoned dart to the chest for his troubles. After getting Jimjar up the rope ladder TS used her squirreled away Wand of Unlocking and opened the chest only to find a large satchel that appeared to have a face.
Unsure of what it could be, TS handed the bag up to Aldhissla who, rather than stick his hand in the bag, decided to upend it entirely. With a loud crash a multitude of items, armor, weapons, and clothing came spilling forth from opening of the bag.
And that is where we will pick up next time.
