So tonight was the 6th session I’ve run, and while I’m improving my judgement each time, most of my players are new to any kind of role playing game too. It’s been a journey!
Tonight they decided to be more aggressive and decisive than they’ve ever been in the previous 5 sessions!
My plans held up, we started with each team member getting some spotlight. The protege (think Robin, if he teleported and was a bit crap at fighting) had a quick and simple sparring session with her mentor, but her player isn’t too in to role-playing so didn’t need much embellishment. She was waiting on a computer search about people involved in a plot to assassinate the mayor (who happens to be Meryl Streep)
The Janus (like rogue) did her homework mulling over some flyers she found at school that had a coded message, while the legacy (a magical based telekinesis character) got some information about the super powered continental police force agree us trying to make allies with.
Meanwhile the doomed (frankly, a cross between episode 2 Anakin Skywalker and a green lantern) with the nova (kind of scarlet witch but less powerful) and the outsider (Martian manhunter essentially) had gone to a pub and found the landlord, an ally, had been taken by AEGIS (shield).
The outsider herself was struggling with new information about an evil unknown older sibling who has broken out of prison and is coming to earth
Finally the transformed (the flash, but really sexy) was partying.
All these strands are in play, some more obviously pressing than others, some less obviously pressing, some useful to pressing strands if done first.
For once the team agreed on something pretty quickly, which is unusual. Then later, when trying to hunt down information they were far more aggressive than their usual cautious selves! It’s a reverse from the session before where I presented then with a threat and they tried everything they could to avoid convict!
But it all worked out mostly…
The problem with masks is definitely presenting a story that feels perilous, especially with my large group. I’m slowly correcting for that, part of the learning process.
so in the end they decided trying to stop the plot to assassinate the mayor was the priority, we’ll see next time if there is any way for them to do so!
