I couldn't agree more Cow, I was one of the few who actually enjoyed Prometheus, so I was expecting a good closure or continuation and sadly, that didn't happen.
I was really intrigued with what Doctor Shaw was about to find out on her trip and I really liked that character and then in AC they ended all of that with David killing all the engineers and Dr. Shaw? It felt like Ridley Scott wanted to please the Alien fans who were disappointed with Prometheus, so he gave a overly simplistic closure to that story and decided to focus on the Aliens, which I didn't mind, I definitely wanted to see Aliens in Prometheus and in this movie, but again, I feel like the way he decided to conclude the story was done poorly.
The Alien Covenant crew, they are definitely more likeable than the Prometheus crew. In Prometheus, almost everybody barely knew each other, plus, they were some huge trust issues between them since some of them had a selfish agenda, like the guy who was only there for the money, they didn't act like a family. In Alien Covenant, Ridley Scott fixed that, everyone in that crew knew other well, they cared for each other and I think all of them were actually couples.
It was very sad watching Karine hugging and trying to comfort the guy who was about to get killed and then see the horror in her face when she realizes that the situation was even worse than she imagined.
Even though I actually liked Daniels and the crew and I wanted them to survive, Ridley Scott decided to make them do dumb stuff like separating, not properly handling a case of infection (like Maddcow said), follow the android who tried to communicate with the enemy and look at an extraterrestrial egg >_>.
But overall, I enjoyed the movie
